If you want to break through walls you need an attentive jammer and strong blockers, sharpened senses and flexed muscles. To succeed, the team requires a clear strategy and good communication.
Roller Derby is a full contact sports played on roller skates in which two teams compete with each other. The team with the most points wins. It has become internationally known after it spread from the US to bigger cities around the globe. As a sport that originally featured only women*’s teams and evolved around a queer, feminist community, it is seen as an empowering movement.
While the US still has the lead, Roller Derby even settled in the middle east, where for example the Cairollers have been skating since 2012 in Egypt’s chaotic capital Cairo. Roller Derby in these regions is constantly gaining the local’s interest to be part of it, as well as the worldwide community’s support. It is also changing people’s stereotypes and misperceptions about women* in muslim countries.
