Cairo, the city my father was born in has a population of over twenty million. Twenty million people to meet, to talk to, to observe. Buildings are tinted in sand, every colorful object creates contrast. It seems as if only the call to prayer is capable to outdo the loud scenery of the city, enabling a supposed brief pause, when in fact everything continues undisturbed. Each corner might show you something you have not encountered before, making it hard to compare this city to my home town Vienna.
Growing up bi-culturally in only one of the two countries makes it possible to explore the other both as an alien as well as a native. هنا emerged when I visited my relatives, to whom I am partly a stranger as well, in the 'City of the Conqueror' in 2014.
